Heartworm disease is caused by a parasite worm called Dirofilaria immitis, which will grow and mature in the pulmonary system, resulting in Heartworm Associated Respiratory Disease (HARD).

According to the American Heartworm Association, fewer cases are reported on felines due to many of them not showing symptoms until later progression of the disease. Prevention is just as important in cats as it is in dogs, as even a few worms can be deadly due to feline's small size.

Dr. Hassel and Dr. Tenenzapf's Recommended Preventions:

boxes of revolution plus and revolt

Revolution Plus & Revolt are both topical prevenetions applied once every 30 days. Both preventions cover heartworms and fleas. Revoltion plus covers ticks and tapeworms as well!

Even if your feline is fully indoor, mosquitos can still infect them! Year round prevention is recommended for cats of all lifestyles and during season!

There is no real treatment that has been approved, outside of supportive care and steriods, which is why it is extra important to protect your feline!
